Alex Skarlen: Lucy’s Flower Shop (Stockholm)

Alex Skarlen is the co-founder of Lucy’s Flower Shop in Stockholm. He makes us two cocktails, one with Rye Whiskey and Punt è Mes and the second with Sherry and Overproof Rum.

Alex Skarlen introduce yourself
I’m born and raised in the hospitality industry, from Grandma and Grandpa to Mum & Dad. But it was always by my own choice that I started to work restaurants and in bars. They did everything they could to get me to think about other industries and jobs. But I started doing dishes at 16 on an island called Gotland. Now many years later after barbacking, nightclub bartending, cocktail geeking, travelling, working in London, New York, Paris… I’m now back in my hometown Stockholm running my own bar Lucy’s Flower Shop with my friend Ola Carlson.

The classic you want to show us
Meat Hook
40ml of Rye Whiskey
10ml of Punt è Mes
10ml of Maraschino Liqueur
5ml of Smokey Islay Whisky

The bar you dream of
Lucy’s Flower Shop is my dream bar, but ideally we would have a massive kitchen and great chefs as well, so we could do a full dinner service at the same time as being a great cocktail bar.

What do you do in your time off
Enjoying life with my amazing family and trying to travel from time to time.

The spirit you like the most
Rum has always been a favourite for me because of its diversity and different styles.

What makes a good cocktail
It’s about flavour, balance, texture, smell and presentation. When it comes to the presentation I’m very much in to minimalistic. Less is more.

What ingredient do you enjoy using in cocktails
Homemade Vinegar is something fun. It adds a lot of flavour when used in the right amounts and n a drink.

Where do you think we need to go to interview another bartender
You need to go to Asia, especially in Singapore for interviewing Vijay Mudaliar the founder of Native, then Seoul for Odd Strandbakken at Charles H.

Thank you The Cambridge Public house
