Ludovica Massucci is a bartender at The Court in Rome. She makes us two cocktails, one with Cynar and Frangelico the second with Gin and Jasmine Syrup.
Ludovica introduce yourself
I am Ludovica Massucci, I am 29 years old and I started in the industry 12 years ago as a waitress. In my first bar, there was a girl behind the bar and I really wanted to become that girl. So at the end of the season, I went to a bartending school. At the same time, I was at the university where I graduated in economics and finance, then in interpreting and translating. But bartending was my passion, so I focused on that and spent time more and more behind the stick, even in San Diego in the US, when I was studying there. After several bars in Rome, I joined The Court team a year ago.

The bar you dream of
My dream bar would be a rooftop bar in a boutique hotel, with a fantastic view over the Pacific Ocean in Los Cabos in Mexico. The drinks would be refreshing long cocktails with great garnishes, so you would enjoy taking them in photos. You would have tapas too. Social media are central today, so you would have places in the venue very instagrammable.
What do you do in your time off
The Court is like a family so even when I am off, I spend a lot of time here. And because I have a 6 years old daughter, I spend a lot of time with her obviously. She came here and ask me to teach her how to make cocktails, we made mocktails of course.
The spirit you like the most
It depends, I tend to prefer tequila, but it’s easier to work with vodka and it’s the go-to for many customers. So it”s a good start before leading them to other spirits and new things.
What makes a good cocktail
For me, it’s about uniqueness. Today you can find a lot of cocktails everywhere. So if you can create a signature cocktail, with a different taste, a different approach, people will remember that’s the place where they had it and not just another cocktail on the list.
What ingredient do you enjoy using in cocktails
I love to make infusions, so tea is a very nice ingredient to play with. I like oolong tea for the body and the milky texture it gives to the liquid.
